Sasha Neustroev - Cello
Sasha Neustroev was born in Novosibirsk (Russia). On graduating from the Moscow Central Music School he became a student of distinguished cellist David Geringas in Lübeck (Germany). A finalist and prizewinner at major cello competitions in Paris (Concours Rostropovich) and Moscow (Tchaikovsky Competition), he also took a special award for the best performance of Piazzolla’s Le grand tango at the 4th Adam International Cello Festival and Competition in Christchurch, next to the First Prize. This versatility and open- mindedness towards all genres of music have marked his playing ever since.
From time to time, he performs as a soloist with the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, where he has been deputy solo cellist since 1999, for example under Lorin Maazel (the Schumann concerto, broadcasted live on Swiss National Radio) or David Zinman (Bloch’s Shelomo). Moreover, Sasha played with various orchestras at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival (Germany), the Festival International de Colmar (France), on tour with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, as well as with various chamber orchestras in Russia and Switzerland.
Sasha Neustroev shared his great love for chamber music with Julia Fischer, Gerhard Schulz, Christian Tetzlaff, Heinz Holliger, Lyudmila Berlinskaya, Oliver Schnyder and Martha Argerich, joining her in a performance of Juliusz Zarebski‘s Piano Quintet that was later released on DVD.
Between 2016 and 2018, he was a member of the Swiss Piano Trio. Two highlights of this collaboration were a prolonged tour to Canada and performances in South America of Beethoven’s Triple Concerto with the Zurich Chamber Orchestra and a corresponding CD recording.
Currently, Sasha Neustroev is a member of different chamber ensembles: the Valentin Berlinsky String Quartet, with whom he performed at the Menuhin Festival Gstaad, at the Chopin- and Rubinstein-Festivals in Poland and made a number of highly acclaimed recordings, amongst others, and the AOIDE Trio, with which he will tour through South Korea.
In addition to his busy career as a performer, Sasha Neustroev is an enthusiastic teacher and has held master classes in South Korea, Poland and Switzerland.
